7 Reasons Why The Sandlot was One of the best movies of the our Childhood

The first time I watched The Sandlot, my older brothers and I were spending the weekend at Grandma's and they insisted we watched it (seniority always ruled). My 6-year-old self was much more drawn to Grandma's impressive collection of Shirley Temple movies as baseball did nothing for me. It wasn't until I grew up a few years and reaquainted myself with the film (an embarrassing amount of times) that I realized The Sandlot isn't simply a sports movie; it's a movie of friendship and brotherhood, and the awkward years of adolescence with a perfect taste of nostalgia.

Thus, it was an easy choice for us to choose this iconic flick to be played at the Memorial Union Terrace at Badgers' Night Out, Thursday April 24.

1. We were given the most important quote of our generation

2. And introduced to our first crushes

C'mon boys, I know you rewound the pool scene with Wendy Peffercorn one too many times. (Mad Men finatics -- does she look familiar?)

And to all my fellow ladies out there, Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez basically taught us what tall, dark & handsome was.

3. We were taught the consequences of tobacco

"Chaw! I was saving it for a good time."

4. The Sandlot taught us to face our fears head on

Because sometimes the things we are afraid of won't be so bad at all...

5. Oh, and then James Earl Jones decides to pop in for a scene or two.

6. It showed us that we can accomplish anything if you set your mind to it & work hard

Those emotions felt when Scotty Smallz caught that first ball...

7. And maybe most importantly, The Sandlot showed us that you can find life-long friends in the most unexpected people.

Benny, Smallz, "Yeah-Yeah", "Ham", "Squintz", Kenny, Bertram, Timmy & Tommy -- every character is perfectly unique and necessary for the groups dynamic.

Been too long since you've seen The Sandlot? Don't remember the ending or the perfectly on-point narrator (lets admit it, all good movies have an epic narrator)? Come out to the Memorial Union Terrace for Badgers' Night Out on Thursday for an outdoor screening of The Sandlot!

If you want a little pre-viewing excitement Buzzfeed pulled through for us: Which Character from the Sandlot are you?
